Just had my first-ever radio appearance on Touchstones: Spiritual Experience, a program on WCOM-FM 103.5 in Carrboro, North Carolina! What fun.
I shared the airwaves with Philip Young, an expert astrologer, Tarotist and web designer, and our lovely host Paul Nagy. Our topic was marketing for the metaphysical and holistic practitioner (of course).
The program was excellent, if I do say! An mp3 should be available for download in a few days - I’ll be sure to pass on the link when I receive it.
August 14th, 2008 — General Messages, Goodies, Mindset
Over the past 20 months or so that I’ve been working for myself, things have been pretty hectic. A good hectic (newsletter readers might remember my recent “Mindset Insight” on busy-ness), but hectic all the same. And a couple of months ago, I looked up and noticed that I’d lost touch with some of my own grounding and centering time, connecting with Spirit time (Lady Universe, as I call her).
Like most of us, I’d like to slow down and reconnect, but what’s more, I’d like to use my brain better - specifically, to not be such a slave to the “monkey mind.” (Did you know that on average, we deliver over 50,000 messages to ourselves daily? Most of that self-talk isn’t good… but that’s another story.)
So a couple of months ago, I started a simple morning meditation practice. After taking a few minutes to slow down and get centered, take 9 deep breaths while keeping my mind clear.
That’s it, just 9 deep breaths.
Simple, perhaps, but not easy. In fact, it’s downright hard!
9 deep breaths of calm, 9 deep breaths of NOT thinking about, well, everything. (Including all the good stuff - and I am very thankful for my life these days. 9 deep breaths without gratitude, even.) Hard, but no matter what, I feel so much better afterward.
The 9 deep breaths has turned into something of a focus point for me. When I’m going about my day and things are getting to be a little bit too much, I stop everything and take those 9 deep breaths. They help.
Why am I passing this on? Because I know many of you struggle with the monkey mind, too. I invite you to give 9 deep breaths a try.
In BYMB news, I’ve made a few changes to the blog, including adding an audio message! If you’re reading this in your blog reader and haven’t been by in a little while, come on over and check out the mini face-lift. More changes to come soon.

I’m so excited about this, I just have to share!
As many of you know, I’m a comics writer as well as a marketing expert, and my first graphic novel (novel in comics form) is coming out in just a few weeks! Earlier in the week, my copies of the book arrived! Behold:

(The pictures are courtesy of Sami Makkonen, who brought my script to life.)
I believe the exact ship date for BLUE is July 30. It’ll be available in comics shops. Please show your local comics shop some love and request it from them (they’ll need the order code, which is MAY083778)! If you don’t have a shop near you, it’s available on Amazon.com as well.
In other cool comics news, I’ll have a short story in a massive comics anthology honoring the songs of Tori Amos, COMIC BOOK TATTOO. In a couple of weeks, I’m off to the San Diego Comic Con, where I will be sitting on a panel with Tori herself. (Yes, I’m pinching myself.) COMIC BOOK TATTOO hits comics shops on July 16, and will be available in bookstores shortly thereafter (or you can check it out on Amazon).

For all the Tarot fans out there, just a quick reminder to keep your peepers peeped to this fabulous resource by Amy Lamash, the Tarot Calendar. Tarot events around the world, all in one place!
The calendar is always pretty full, but we know that it’s still a fraction of what’s going on out there. So if you know of any events, or are hosting your own, make sure to pass them along to Amy!
June 25th, 2008 — General Messages, Good Practices
For fun, I thought I’d share a little more about how I came to be such a big fan of the just-one-thing strategy.
First, I can’t help but post this quote from mega-entrepreneur Dan Kennedy, mentioned in the BYMB newsletter this week (are you signed up?). It comes from his book, No B.S. Wealth Attraction:
“Finally, let me reveal one of my own, personal ’secrets of success.’ It is a daily discipline I have adhered to for more than 30 years. I’d wager I’ve neglected it less than 30 days out of the 30 years. I’ve adhered to it 10,920 out of 10,950 days. Every day, no matter what else I am doing or must do that day, even if in a full day of consulting, traveling across country, or on vacation, I still do one thing, if only one thing, one thing intended to ‘prime my pump’ to create future business for myself or my companies. It may be a small thing: tearing a magazine article that should interest one of my clients, scrawling a note on it and mailing it. It may be answering one item of correspondence, getting one fax sent, identifying a new, potentially useful contact, jotting a note, or sending a book. But no day passes without me doing at least one such thing. Although it is no longer required, it has been especially important to me over the years because a lot of my income is derived from delivery of services, such as speaking, consulting, coaching and advertising copywriting; so, in a way, I must sell ‘it’ and make ‘it.’ Most professionals stop selling while they’re delivering, so they have dry spells, roller coaster ups and downs. I have had more demand than supply of me and waiting lists of clients for many years because of my daily discipline of doing at least one proactive thing to attract business every single day.”
I did not learn this strategy from Dan Kennedy. I discovered “just one thing” back in 1994.
It was my last semester at Trinity College. Like many college seniors, my swan song came in the form of the dreaded senior thesis.
I can’t remember now how I hit on the strategy of doing just one thing, no matter how small, each and every day to get the thesis done. I’d like to think it was my own idea. Maybe I’d thought of it myself, but it was definitely floating around out there in the ether. I do know that I have never been an all-nighter kind of person, especially when it comes to writing. If the paper is not done the night before it’s due, it’s going to be late. Period. The thought horrified me.
I will never forget the day when, while sitting around in the cafeteria listening to everyone else bellyache and moan about their last-minute mad dashes toward the thesis finish line, I realized that mine was already done. 2 weeks early.
“And this comes as a surprise?” said a kid sitting across from me. He was staring into the abyss of being awake 24 hours a day for his last 2 weeks.
“I hadn’t even noticed,” I said, truthfully.
Silence.
“Um, I guess I’d better take it to Kinko’s and get it printed.”
The kid just shook his head.
June 16th, 2008 — General Messages, Stuff. Also Things
I went missing on the blog last week, I know! Between client work and the teleseminar and getting the newsletter out, something had to give. I’ve got a few posts lined up for this week, so keep your peepers peeped.
Last week in the newsletter I unveiled a new service… and a new moniker! Yes, I’m taking on a new name: The Marketing Goddess. And let me tell ya, it feels so right! Please bear with me while I shift things around a little. The newsletter will get a new name too, but don’t worry - the focus remains the same.

So those on the BYMB mailing list should have received their newsletters - sent ‘em out today. On schedule! (Go, me!)
I am, however, rather swamped. I’m getting ready for The System (the world’s first, best and longest running Internet Marketing conference, founded by superdude Ken McCarthy) and typing as fast as I can on… a certain copywriting project many readers of this blog are anxiously awaiting. :) Plus, it was Memorial Day weekend. (Yeah, ok, some of you caught me working…)
And working on my next comics script on top of that. Yes, really!
So we might be a little short on posts here this week, but I promise I’ll get some good info up for y’alls before I leave on Friday.
In the meantime, Anya writes:
“PS: Did I ask you already if an avid Build Your Metaphysical Business reader could be called a BYMBo? (Heh.)”
(At first, I didn’t get it. Now, it’s quarter-til-2 in the morning. I get it! I get it!)
I’ll leave you with a link that will leave you BREATHLESS…

May 20th, 2008 — General Messages
So it’s my anniversary today. Second, third, fourth or forever-th, depending on how you look at it. I’m a little distracted. Leland and I are going to bag the whole “working for a living” thing and head off into the sunset for the afternoon.
Coming soon: the registration page for the upcoming BYMB teleseminar. I’m going to try to have it live before the night is through. If not, tomorrow.
That’s it!
May 6th, 2008 — Announcements, General Messages
I want ‘em!
The first issue of the Build Your Metaphysical Business Newsletter is coming! Soon! Very soon! I’m still figuring out what the publication schedule will be and all that -it’ll be a work in progress for a little while. But I do know I’ll feature a Q&A section, where I’ll be answering your questions. This means I need your questions!
You can leave questions in the comments, or email them to me at elizabeth at [domain name of this site].
As I said, the BYMB newsletter will be a work in progress. I’m thinking of making the Q&A’s newsletter-only. No matter what, however, there will be stuff in the newsletter you can’t get any other way, so definitely please sign up if you haven’t already. (Upper right hand corner of BYMB.com has the boxes for your name and email addy - just hit submit. In case you’re wondering, I repeat this every time because many folks are reading this from an RSS reader, not on the site proper!)
Anyhoo, bring ‘em on.
In other news, I need a snappy name for the newsletter. Anyone got any ideas?
